Ministries

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

The Bible says that God has given to each of us a gift. We want to help you discover, unwrap, and use that gift so that you can make a difference in this world.

CHURCH SERVICES

‘ALTER' MINISTRYWe call it 'alter' ministry, because we believe that prayer 'alters' people's lives for the better. We are committed to training and releasing 'believing believers' to pray with others and release God's power in and through them.

Ushers / Car Park Attendants / Welcomers / Atmosphere Team / Gloria Jeans / Morning Tea:

The most visible ministry on a Sunday is that which takes place on the platform, but we believe that church ministry starts in the car park - when people arrive. Without the ministry of faithful, enthusiastic and dedicated people, there would be no 'glue' to hold everything together.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Leadership is always the problem and leadership is always the solution! God always works through leaders. We are committed to developing leadership in every believer.

As one of our values is to have an empowering team culture (not one man bands), each month we hold TEAM LIFE with either a Guest Speaker or Ps. Sean sharing.  Any updates in the life of our church, encouragement, and inspiring messages are shared to equip us to lead and minister with others better, finishing with a wonderful supper.  It is a great time also to catch up with others; quite often, other churches in the Capital Country ACC District join us as well.

CONNEXIONS - SMALL GROUPS

Our Church is committed to caring for each person in our congregation. We want you to feel valued and fulfilled. To assist us in achieving this goal, we have developed a network of small groups in which you can develop friendships and be encouraged to grow in your faith.

Our Connexions groups have 4 basic aims:

  • Connect people
  • Care for people
  • Provide opportunities for people to contribute & serve others
  • Have a contagious Christianity - be a follower of Christ and make disciples.

Whatever you enjoy doing, we want you to flourish in that area, turning your life into ministry as you connect with others.

Let us help you find the right Connexions Group so that you quickly feel part of our Church family.

Whether you are looking for a Bible Study group or something for women, men or youth; for a Prayer Group, or even just a special interest group, we want to find a group to suit you.

All of the major departments in our church use the Connexions structure to facilitate integration into church life and to provide a positive environment for growth and gift development.  If you already know which group you are interested in, then our Church Office (6101-6933) can give you the specific group contact details. Otherwise, contact Ps Lynda Stanton at the Church Office and allow us the privilege of helping you.

MEN'S MINISTRY

Our aim is to provide men with an opportunity to build and maintain a solid relationship with our Creator and each other. As we learn and grow, it enables us to be a positive effect in our circle of influence in our families, friends, work colleagues, church family and the community.  Come along to our 'Real Men's Brekkies' (held approx every 2-3 months) for real male company with honest, sharing times intermingled with a load of fun.

WOMEN'S MINISTRY

Our mandate is to believe in the incredible potential of girls & women, regardless of age, status or background.  We want all our girls & women to connect in relationships, being there to support, encourage & spur each other on, building into each other lives.

Apart from holding special events, and an annual conference "Wise Up" for our Region, our 'Connexions'  listing also has many varied day and night groups,  especially for girls/women. We also cater for our Mums with Nurture (Mothers of Babies to Pre-Schoolers) and Playgroup (where children & parents/carers all interact).  There is always an opportunity to build great relationships.

We want you to be loving life ... so come and join us!

MISSIONS - NATION CHANGERS

"Go and make disciples of all nations" is a command that is given to us.  We aim to take the message of hope that Jesus offers, to all the earth - locally, nationally & internationally.  Our church supports a numbers of areas of mission that are having an impact in their particular location.

Our commitment is to be relevant and practical in this area of ministry, and meet people at their point of need.  This can be through prayer, providing food and clothing, supporting projects, and building safe homes in areas overseas to house orphans. These are just some of the ways that we look to change people's lives to ultimately change nations.

Ps Sean Stanton is our Regional Director for Pen Asia Region (Peninsular Asia), which includes Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Lao, and Vietnam (www.penasia.org). There are families who have committed their lives to working in these areas. We support their daily living financially, in prayer, and through constant contact.  We have leaders who take teams to visit and work with them where and when possible.  There are many ways to be effective.   Helping develop and finance projects like farming, wheelchairs for those in need and assisting families financially to be able to send their children to school.

NEW CHRISTIANS

The New Christians Ministry involves an enthusiastic group of people who desire to see:

  • All people come to an understanding of Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.
  • All believers grow in a personal relationship with Christ Jesus.
  • All believers, building upon a firm foundation in Christ Jesus, seek and fulfil His plan for their destiny.

The New Christians team are involved in three layers of support for new or recommitting Christians:

  • Initial prayer and support in their commitment
  • FOUNDATIONS COURSE
  • Follow-up support
  • Foundational training courses

The team is always looking for dedicated and enthusiastic people to help in any and all areas of this very important ministry. There are roles for people who want to counsel, facilitate, serve through physical support or just to pray. All training is provided.

PASTORAL CARE

We believe that every person is important to God. With the aid of a dedicated and diverse Pastoral Care team and with the support of our CONNEXIONS Network, our aim is to provide the best possible physical, emotional, spiritual and practical support to those in need. All care is taken to ensure the best possible outcome for all.

CREATIVE ARTS

Music, song, dance, drama, songwriting, sound, lighting ... it's all happening! We also have a multi media area which covers audio, video & television production.  The electronic media is an important avenue for reaching the world. We welcome those who have professional training in this field to come & join us. If you are interested, but not trained, then all you need is a willing heart to be involved.

We have a wonderful, enthusiastic team who have a heart for God and His people. Our desire is to be a team that honours and worships God with unity and excellence in the creative arts, so that people will SEE and come to KNOW God.

During the year we hold special events where all the different expressions of the team can be released, as well as opportunities during our Sunday service for the team to minister in a variety of ways.

We meet regularly for input, worship, waiting on God, prayer, practice, fun and caring. We believe you can only impart what is already in you, so we are zealous to build big people on the inside, who will be confident to impart all that God wants to do through them.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

We are constantly challenged by the administration of our current computer systems. We also need support from those who are analysing and bringing forward understanding of future direction and trends in Information Technology.

COMMUNITY CARE

Through Canberra City Care, our church is committed to caring for our community by providing assistance where applicable. We provide a range of services that assist with immediate and longer term care. HandUp and Re-Runs (below) have made a significant impact in the lives of people in the Canberra community.

HANDUP

HandUp is a food care service offered by Canberra City Care, a non-profit organisation developed to meet the needs of people struggling financially, whilst preserving their dignity. We understand that crisis knows no boundaries - it can strike anyone, at any time, in many different ways. People needing help are welcome to come to HandUp as often as they need to for assistance with the provision of food.  Volunteers are always welcome and full training is provided.

RE-RUNS (OP SHOP)

Pre-loved clothing for men, women, children and babies, magazines, books, shoes, toys... all for $1 each only. There is also furniture in good condition, and other household goods.

The team at Re-Runs are trained volunteers who love and believe in people. We know it is not easy to ask for help. There are some things we can't do, but we can take away people's isolation, and show them that they are loved, valued, respected and their life is meaningful.

CHRISTIANS AGAINST POVERTY

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national debt counselling charity working through a network of centres based in local churches. Our CAP Canberra office is helping people in this practical way with great success.

CAP offers hope and a solution to anyone in debt through its unique, in-depth service. CAP aims to show God's love in action by providing sustainable poverty relief through free debt counselling, advice and practical help. A budgeting course called CAP Money is also offered which is designed to help people to effectively manage their money.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

As living in today's society has become increasingly pressured, so has the stress on relationships, with marriage break-ups and dysfunctional families often the result. Our community programs seek to offer a positive and current alternative to help those in need navigate these difficult areas of life.

  • Prepare/Marriage Enrich Course offers premarital help for newly engaged couples who wish to build valuable or fulfilling relationships from the very beginning or help for those married couples who are wishing to see their marriage keep growing.
  • The Careforce Valiant Man Course is a study designed to both strengthen and restore moral and spiritual integrity in the lives of men.
  • Hillsong CityCare Shine Girl and Shine Women are personal development programs for young girls between 12 - 18 years and women from 18 years and over. The aim is for each girl and woman to gain an understanding of her own personal worth, strength and purpose and to realise the potential within to fulfil all her desires.
  • Rachels Vineyard Retreats are weekend retreats designed to bring psychological and spiritual healing to women and men suffering the effects of a past abortion experience.
  • Cap Money offers simple practical strategies for those who are finding it increasingly difficult to manage their budget or spending habits.

CHARITY COMPUTERS

Charity Computers is a project of Canberra Christian Life Centre. They are a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity. All funds and donations received from the public and various organisations, are used to assist a wide range of people, allowing them to supply computers to those in need and not-for-profit organisations. By refurbishing donated computers, landfill is reduced.

There are also opportunities for volunteers such as I.T. training, references and hands on experience.
